چکیده
The data presented in this article are related to the research article entitled "Molecular adaptive convergence in the α-globin gene in subterranean octodontid rodents" (Tomasco et al., 2017) [1]. This article shows the nucleotide sequences of α-globin subunit gene of hemoglobin of several South American caviomorph rodents, including subterranean and fossorial species. These sequences are deposited in Genbank, with accession numbers ranging from MF169881 to MF169898. Of a total of 429 nucleotides analyzed (143 codons), 100 variable sites and 43 amino acid replacements were reported. In this article we also show the results of TreeSaap (Woolley et al., 2003) [2] and MEME (Murrell et al., 2012) [3], that identified some replacement changes as interesting for future studies of adaptive evolution in this large rodent radiation.

Co-inheritance of α-and β-thalassemia: challenges in prenatal diagnosis of thalassemia
Background: The double heterozygous state of α/β thalassemia may alter the hematological indices and modify the phonotype. In addion, definite characterizaon of co-inheritance of α- and β-thalassemia heterozygous carriers may change the process of genec counseling. Materials and Methods: An Iranian couple with low hematological indices was analyzed for α-globin gene deleons using mulpl...
متن کاملThalassemic Mutations in Southern Iran
Background: Approximately 180 mutations have been described in β-thalassemia worldwide with specific spectrum in each ethnic population. This study determines the spectrum and the frequency of β-thalassemia mutations in patients with β-thalassemia trait and sickle cell-β-thalassemia. Methods: Fifteen compound heterozygous sickle cell thalassemia (SCT) and 23 β-thalassemia trait patients were st...
متن کاملAva II Site as a Marker of β-Globin Gene Polymorphism, among Normal and Sickle Cell Patients in Iran
The restriction enzyme Ava II detects the base change of the intervening sequence II (IVS II) which is used as one of the markers of β-globin gene polymorphism. This study was conducted to determine the frequency of the Ava II site on the β-globin gene among normal people and patients with sickle cell syndrome (SCS) in Iran. DNA fragments containing the IVS II region of the β-globin gene from...
متن کاملGamma reactivation using the spongy effect of KLF1-binding site sequence: an approach in gene therapy for beta-thalassemia
Objective(s): β-thalassemia is one of the most common genetic disorders in the world. As one of the promising treatment strategies, fetal hemoglobin (Hb F) can be induced. The present study was an attempt to reactivate the γ-globin gene by introducing a gene construct containing KLF1 binding sites to the K562 cell line. Materials and Methods: A plasmid containing a 192 bp sequence with two repe...

ABSTRACT Background and Objectives: Hemoglobinopathies are characterized by defects in the synthesis of globin chains of hemoglobin (Hb). The purpose of the present study was to evaluate mutations associated with thalassemia and other hemoglobinopathies in Masjed Soleiman County, Iran. Methods: This descriptive study was carried out on 456 individuals suspected of ha...
